Online freelancing is growing rapidly. However, despite this rapid growth, we have a limited understanding of online freelancers' long-term experiences and evolution, or how influences broader career goals. To address gap, interviewed set freelancers at two time periods, half years apart. We found that engagement with involves unique financial, emotional, relational, reputational burdens represent the overhead maintaining an career. influenced participation perceptions over time, as well strategies some employed to manage their careers. Our findings further highlight freelance platforms can afford development opportunities longer period including exploration transition, entrepreneurial training reputation, skills transfer. Based on our findings, present policy design implications increase sustainability accessibility freelancing.
